In May 2018, Ruben sent a “friend request” to Stephanie, and the rest, as they say, is history. Steph replied quickly, and soon the two began chatting.
As the months passed and their messages grew more frequent, fate intervened when Ruben and Steph crossed paths in person at a Friendsgiving event. From that moment, it was clear something special had begun.
As Steph’s birthday approached, she invited Ruben to her celebration, where he met many of her closest friends. The reactions were unanimous: “Who is that?” “He’s a keeper, Steph!” “This guy’s really nice!” Her friends could tell right away that this day was bound to come.
A month later, as they grew closer, Ruben realized how much they had in common. He asked her to be his girlfriend. Their shared love for the same foods, passion for animals—especially doggos—and deep devotion to sports bonded them even further.
Most importantly, they both shared an unwavering love for God and a commitment to living by His word.
As the years went by, their love only deepened. Their adventures together, from spontaneous late-night pizza runs in downtown, driving through River Oaks to admire the Christmas lights, spending countless hours together during the pandemic, enjoying tailgating at every UH game, taking that impromptu road trip to witness a once-in-a-lifetime total solar eclipse in Waco, and Ruben taking Steph on her first airplane trip, made their relationship feel nothing short of magical. It was as if their connection had been written perfectly by God.
In March of 2024, surrounded by close friends, Ruben asked Stephanie to be his wife. With tears of joy and a heart full of love, she gladly accepted.
Now, they are excited to embark on the next chapter of their journey together: MARRIAGE!
